Buggy Fear Factor

Congratulations to the top six finalists in Waterford Public Library's first ever Fear Factor event! Thirty-six people attended and 18 chose to particpate in the events. All participants were asked to eat buggy Jell-O, ground bug larvae, grasshopper stew, caterpillar coccoons, and chocolate covered crickets. Six participants ate all of the foods, and five ate all of the foods including a ground up mixture of them all. The top six are Matt Boster, Brienna Becker, Kayla Connell, Eric Dietrich, Amanda Williams, and Austin Hayden. They got pins identifying themselves as bug-eaters and won free subs from Subway and free games of bowling.

Stephenie Meyer in Concert?

Stephenie Meyer is taking a break from her touring shedule and will not be touring about her new book, Breaking Dawn. Instead, her publisher will be hosting a four-city concert tour. Beginning August 1 in New York, she will appear in "an evening of story and song" featuring a musical performance by Justin Furstenfeld of the group Blue October reports Publisher's Weekly. She will be in CHICAGO at the Harris Theatre on AUGUST 5!!!! Her other stops include LA and Seattle. She will hold a question and answer session with the audience and then be joined onstage by Furstenfeld. She has cited several of his songs as having been inspirational in the writing of her books. After the concert, fans can line up for an autograph. Tickets cost $20 and went on sale last Saturday at 10 AM! More details are available on stepheniemeyer.com and the twilightsaga.com (Roback, Diane. "Stephenie Meyer...In Concert?". Children's Bookshelf: Publisher's Weekly: June 19, 2008)

Feen 'n' Read

Eleven teens came to yesterday's Feed 'n' Read program! We had fun eating Vampire Foods (brain jello and vampire cupcakes), making cloth shopping bags in an effort to Go Green, creating new looks with tattoo markers and nail polish, and entering contests. We talked about the Twilight series, Maximum Ride series, Uglies series, and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. Check out Waterford's own Traveling Pants in the Young Adult area at the library! Hoping to see more of you at future teen programs. The next event for teens is Wii Boxing on June 30th! Come and bash in your friend's face!

Elephant Sanctuary

Check out this link to the Elephant Sanctuary in Teneessee! Sissy is my favorite! I think it's great that she gets to carry her "security tire" around with her all day. Wouldn't it be funny to live next to an Elephant Sanctuary? Can you imagine being woken up by a trumpeting elephant? Maybe the Teen Advisory Board can look into sponsoring an elephant next year!
